Surgically Facilitated Orthodontic Therapy (Wilckodontics)

Wilckodontics, or surgically facilitated orthodontic therapy, is a procedure which is done in combination with orthodontic therapy, that allows for tooth movement in situations where traditional orthodontics would take too long, or result in unacceptable outcome. In this procedure, precise cuts are made in the bone around the roots of the teeth, and bone graft is added. The teeth are then moved with orthodontic brackets. This interdisciplinary approach to orthodontics results in treatment time that is shorter than usual, as well as a final outcome in which the gums and supporting bone are healthy.
