Healing is a complex process that involves organization of cells, biochemical triggers, and extracellular matrix synthesis for repair of tissue. Extensive studies have established the role of different biologics in wound healing. In the past decade, periodontal regeneration and dental implants have become more predictable and successful, largely due to the adjunctive use of biologics. At Millennium Periodontics, we use several evidence-based, proven biologics for periodontal regeneration in Chicago, IL, including the procedures ridge augmentation, sinus augmentation, and socket preservation.

First, we take a panoramic X-ray or 3-D CT scan to study the anatomy of your jaw and additional areas, depending on your case. After this information is analyzed, we devise a personalized treatment plan to determine the best approach, including whether to use biologics to enhance healing. These procedures are typically performed under local anesthesia, but we also offer several sedation options for your ultimate comfort and peace of mind.
This common procedure helps recreate the natural contour of the gums and jaw after bone loss resulting from a tooth extraction or another reason. The alveolar ridge of the jaw is the bone that surrounds the roots of your teeth. After a tooth is extracted, an empty socket is left in the alveolar ridge bone. While this usually heals on its own by filling in with bone and tissue, sometimes the bone surrounding the socket breaks and won’t heal. Although rebuilding the original height and width of the alveolar ridge may not be medically necessary, it may be required for dental implant placement or recommended aesthetic purposes. Dental implants require adequate bone to support the structure. During this procedure, bone grafting material is replaced in and around your tooth socket to rebuild the original height and width of the bone. Next, gum tissue is placed over the socket and secured with sutures.
